Why We Use an MCS Umbrella Scheme

Umbrella schemes can be excellent for customers, provided the umbrella provider is highly reputable. They allow customers to work with trusted, local renewable energy specialists while ensuring every installation meets the strict Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) standards required to access government incentives and export tariffs.

By operating under an established MCS and NAPIT umbrella scheme, Mark Harvey Renewables can deliver a personal, local service while providing customers with the reassurance of independent quality assurance, compliant installations, and the certification needed for schemes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) and Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

This approach combines the benefits of local expertise with nationally recognised standards, giving customers confidence that their installation is completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with industry requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much electricity does a 4kW solar system produce per year?

A 4kw system will, on average, generate around 3,400kwh of electricity per year. When we break that down, we can see that it is enough to provide:

  • 4,857 hours of the washing machine
  • 97,143 hours of the fridge
  • 1,880 hours of boiling the kettle
  • 1,417 hours of the oven

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) estimates that a typical three-bedroom home in the UK will use just over 3,000kw per year. So, a 4kw or 5kw system would cover this.

What is an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump (ASHP) extracts heat from the outside air and uses it to heat your home and hot water, even in cold weather. It is a highly efficient, low-carbon alternative to traditional gas, oil, or LPG boilers.

How efficient are air source heat pumps?

ASHPs are typically 3–4 times more efficient than traditional heating systems, meaning for every unit of electricity used, they can produce multiple units of heat.

Do air source heat pumps work in winter?

Yes. Modern heat pumps are designed to operate efficiently even in low outdoor temperatures, providing consistent heating and hot water throughout the year.

How much can I get through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Eligible homeowners can receive up to £9k through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) towards the cost of installing an air source heat pump, subject to eligibility.

Are air source heat pumps noisy?

No. Modern systems are designed to be quiet in operation, typically comparable to a fridge or low-level background noise when installed correctly, all our Ashps have Quiet trademark.

Will I need new radiators?

In some cases, yes. Because heat pumps operate at lower flow temperatures than boilers, larger radiators or minor system upgrades may be recommended to maximise efficiency.

How long do air source heat pumps last?

With regular servicing, an air source heat pump can last around 20-30 years or more, with many components designed for long-term reliability.

Do you offer warranties and certification?

Yes. Installations include manufacturer warranties and are carried out through an MCS and NAPIT-compliant umbrella scheme, ensuring access to relevant certifications and government incentives.

What areas do you cover?

We install air source heat pump systems across Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire & Lincolnshire.
